We’re pretty spoilt when it comes to beaches here in Dorset. Plus, most of them are dog-friendly too. So if you’re in search of a place where your pooch can splash in the surf, dig in the sand, and spend some time chasing up and down the shoreline, take a look at our pick of the best dog-friendly beaches in Dorset.

    Lulworth Cove

    Dogs welcome all year round

This picturesque, pebbled bay is famed for its panoramic views and crystal clear waters. The stretch of shoreline welcomes four-legged friends all year round, and is the perfect spot for a picnic after splashing around in the shallows.

    Useful info

    • There is parking with accessible toilets nearby.
    • The postcode for the car park is BH20 5RQ.

    Mudeford Sandbank

    Dogs welcome all year round

This sandy stretch of shoreline can be found right here in Christchurch. With cute coloured beach huts and fabulous views, it’s little wonder that Mudeford Sandbank is one of our top dog-friendly hangouts.

    Useful info

    • There are public toilets and hot and cold showers available.
    • The nearest car parks are at Hengistbury Head (BH6 4EL) and Mudeford Quay (BH23 4AB).

    Highcliffe Castle

    Dogs welcome all year round

This long sand and shingle beach is popular with bathers and is perfect for pooches looking to let off some steam. Backed by tree-lined cliffs, and with a footpath leading right up to the castle itself, the beach is an idyllic spot for a day out.

    Useful info

    • Highcliffe Castle has a Pay and Display car park. The postcode is BH23 4LD.
    • You can pay with coins or via RingGo app.

    Worbarrow Bay

Dogs are welcome all year round

This stretch of the magnificent Jurassic Coast is just a 20-minute walk from Tyneham village, but is also accessible via the South West Coast Path. It’s a lovely quiet spot, and your pooch will love chasing sticks or cooling off in the shallows.

    Useful info

    • The area is part of the Ministry of Defence Lulworth Ranges, so it’s important to keep to the paths marked with yellow posts.
    • Car parking is available at Tyneham village.

    Studland Bay

Dogs are welcome all year round, but must be kept on a 2-metre lead from 1st May until 30th September

This gorgeous, golden sandy beach offers fantastic views of Old Harry’s Rocks and is popular with everyone from sunbathers to water sports fans. During the autumn and winter months, dogs are allowed to roam freely. And believe us, your pup will love chasing up and down the bay.

    Useful info

    • There are car parks at Shell Bay, Knoll Beach, Middle Beach and South Beach.
    • Toilets are available at Shell Bay, Knoll Beach and Middle Beach, and a café and Knoll Beach.
